The former Indian Finance Minister and BJP veteran leader Arun Jaitley died on Saturday. His last rites were performed with state honors in Delhi on Sunday. Beyond the party lines, various political leaders paid their tributes to him and attended the last rites. He was 66-year-old. Arun Jaitley condition was critical since many days. He took his last breath after noon on Saturday at Delhi’s leading All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He had been admitted in this hospital for the last two weeks.
His last rites ceremony was attended by various union ministers with whom he had served in the first term of PM Modi’s government. Some of the names from other political parties included Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, Congress’s Jyotiraditya Scindia and Mr Jaitley’s one-time rival in court-room, Kapil Sibal.
Mourners gathered at Mr Jaitley’s south Delhi residence in the morning. Later, his dead body was taken to the party office, where Vice-president Venkaiah Naidu, home minister Amit Shah and Defence minister Rajnath Singh along with other BJP leaders paid floral tribute to Mr jaitely. A lot of people all over the country attended MR Jately’s funeral and paid their tributes to him. Mr Jaitley’s dead body was wrapped in the national flag. Senior Congress leader Motilal Vohra, NCP leaders Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel, RLD leader Ajit Singh and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu also paid tributes to Mr Jaitley.
Mr Jaitley was one of the most reliable ministers of PM Modi and a friend too. He was accredited as the ultimate backroom strategist and a main diplomat of the party. He had directed major economic legislation, comprising the flagship Goods and Services Tax during his term as finance minister. He defended many contentious government policies as well.
