US President Donald Trump accompanied PM Narendra Modi at a massive event in Houston. This event is named as “Howdy, Modi!“. The event will be held on 22 September. This will be the first time that the US President and Indian Prime Minister will address a common rally.
In the midst of conjectures that Trump would attend PM Modi’s Houston program, the White House issued a statement confirming that he would attend the rally. This is the third successive meeting between Trump and PM Modi within a few weeks following by G20 and G7 summits.
This event will be attended by more than 50,000 Indian-Americans from all over the US as they have registered for the mega “Howdy, Modi! Shared Dreams, Bright Futures” to be held at the sprawling NRG Stadium in Houston on September 22″.
“Howdy“, short for ‘How do you do?’, is a friendly greeting. This is frequently used in the southwestern United States. The event has been designed as a welcoming to PM Modi.
White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement, “It (Modi-Trump joint rally) will be a great opportunity to accentuate the strong ties between the people of the United States and India, to reaffirm the strategic partnership between the world’s oldest and largest democracies, and to discuss ways to extend energy and trade relations.“
This would also be the first time when a US president would address thousands of Indian-Americans jointly in the US.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla Indian ambassador to the US described Trump’s partaking in the “Howdy, Modi!” event “historic” and “unprecedented”.
Shringla told PTI, “It is reflective of the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation that has developed between India and the US,”
The event symbols a vast approval of the attempts and victory of the three million-strong Indian-American people and their role in every aspect of life.
The leadership of the US cutting across party lines will also participate in this event. It is news that apart from Republican and Democratic Congressmen and Senators, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the second-ranking member of the Democratic Leadership, would also address the ‘Howdy Modi’ event. This indicates the strong dual partisan support for the relationship between India and the US.
The presence of the US president also depicts how Modi has been able to excel in the political divide in the USA and have great working relationship with both Barack Obama and Trump. Like, Indian PM Modi, Otherworld leaders have not been able to make this changeover.
Indian ambassador to US greeting the White House statement said, “This is unprecedented and historic and is reflective of the close ties of friendship and cooperation between India and the US,”
Prime Minister Modi requested President Trump for this event during their sideline meeting in the G7 summit held in France last month as White House officials told PTI. Officials said, “Trump, who has huge chemistry and friendship with Modi, “instantly accepted” the invite to unite him in Houston and directed his officials and secret service for the same
